What Are Sub-Ohm Vape Kits?

Sub-Ohm Vape Kits are designed for DTL (Direct To Lung) vaping, which is the process of inhaling vapour directly into your lungs.

This style of vaping is popular because it produces more vapour and provides a more satisfying hit for those who use lower nicotine strengths.

Sub ohm kits function similarly to traditional vape kits, consisting of a battery device (mod) and a refillable tank. They boast higher power outputs, advanced chipsets, and sometimes come with removable batteries to support extended use.

Sub-Ohm vape kits are bulky devices that create large clouds for DTL (Direct To Lung) vaping. We generally recommend them to more experienced vapers.

Sub-Ohm vape kits work best with e-liquids that contain at least 60% VG, with 70% VG e-liquids offering the best flavour and vapour production.

Sub-Ohm vape kits typically cost more than MTL (Mouth To Lung) vapes, with the most expensive ones being almost £90. However, there are some cheaper options for you to start your cloud-chasing journey with.

Can I get sub ohm pod kits?

Sub ohm kits typically come in the form of more complex devices with an array of advanced features. They also tend to have bulkier designs, due to their larger battery sizes and use of tanks instead of pods. That said, there are simpler and more compact options available.

Sub ohm pod kits combine the sleek design and user-friendly features of a pod vape with the powerful performance of a traditional sub ohm kit.

This results in an affordable, pocket-sized option that still delivers the bigger clouds of DTL vaping. It’s a popular choice for both new and seasoned users looking for a smaller kit to vape on the go.

What type of e-liquid should I pair with my sub ohm vape kit?

For sub ohm vaping, we suggest you use an e-liquid with at least 60% VG (Vegetable Glycerine). Among the various options, 70% VG e-liquid stands out as a top choice, providing better flavour and increased vapour production.

Most shortfill e-liquids will sit somewhere in this ballpark. Besides the VG/PG ratio, you should also consider the nicotine strength of your e-liquid.

Since sub ohm kits produce more vapour, a lower nicotine strength is required compared to MTL kits — we suggest using a 3mg or 6mg e-liquid.

Vaping too high a strength, like 18mg, would most likely be a bit too intense and lead to unpleasant side effects.

How much are sub ohm kits?

Sub-Ohm kits tend to be a bit pricier than MTL vapes, but there are some more affordable options available.

The cheapest ones we have are the Vaporesso Luxe XR and the VooPoo Drag H80S, which will set you back £24.99 and £29.99 respectively.

Most others cost between £36.99 and £59.99. Some options, like the GeekVape Aegis Legend 3, have a price point of £89.99.

Are sub ohm vape kits beginner-friendly?

Sub ohm kits produce thick, dense clouds of vapour. This is made possible by a combination of low-resistance coils (below 1.0Ω) and high power outputs of 40W or above.

This larger amount of vapour is perfect for DTL vaping and while there’s nothing stopping you starting out with this, a tighter and more discreet inhale might be a bit more comfortable for newbies.

Not only that, but sub ohm kits feature more customisable settings that can be rather complex and better suited to vapers with slightly more experience.

If you’ve recently switched from smoking, or if you’re just new to vaping in general, then you might want to start out with a MTL (Mouth To Lung) pod kit, vape pen or starter kit instead.

These devices are often simpler to use, and create less vapour to provide an inhale that feels a lot more like smoking a cigarette.
