What Are Pod Kits?

Pod Kits are vapes that are designed to be easy-to-use and pocket-friendly.

Their user-friendly, low-maintenance designs have made them a popular choice for beginners, but they’re also favoured by more experienced vapers looking for something simple to vape on the go.

With fewer complexities than traditional vape kits, pod kits are perfect for situations where a larger device, like some of the bulkier sub ohm kits out there, might be impractical to carry around.

Each pod kit consists of a battery that provides power and a pod that contains the coil and e-liquid. They operate just like any other vape kit, but instead of a tank, they use a plastic pod, which is often disposable and contains a built-in coil.

Pod kits are a type of vape that are crafted to be as user-friendly and portable as possible. You can get refillable pod kits, as well as ones that arrive pre-filled.

Most refillable pod kits work best with e-liquids that contain 50% PG or more. However, there are options that work well with higher-VG vape juice too.

Pod kits range in price and while refillable options tend to cost more than pre-filled vapes, both are very affordable.

Different Types Of Pod Kit

There are two types of pod kits available: refillable (also known as open pod systems) and prefilled (commonly referred to as closed pod systems).

As their name suggests, Refillable kits allow you to fill the pods with your own choice of vape juice, while prefilled kits come with pods that are already filled, giving you the convenience of ready-to-use options.

If you’re looking for pure convenience and a hassle-free vape, then you’ll want to go for a prefilled pod kit, while those who want to try a wider variety of e-liquid flavours and nicotine strengths should purchase a refillable option.

What type of e-liquid should I pair with my refillable pod kit?

Different types of vape kit are compatible with different coil resistances and as a result, different types of e-liquids. When it comes to choosing an e-liquid to pair with your pod kit, then main thing to look out for is its VG/PG ratio.

Refillable pod vapes typically use high-resistance coils above 1.0Ω (whether replaceable or built into the pods), designed with MTL (Mouth To Lung) vaping in mind.

They work best with vape juice that contains 50% PG (Propylene Glycol) or more. This can be nic salts, which offer a smooth throat hit and fast satisfaction, or traditional freebase e-liquids that provide a harsher throat hit and slower nicotine release.

That said, there are also sub ohm pod kits designed for DTL (Direct To Lung) vaping, which are compatible with low-resistance coils (below 1.0Ω). These will work best with e-liquids that contain 60% VG (Vegetable Glycerine) or more, such as most shortfills.

How much are pod kits?

Pod kits, whether refillable or pre-filled, are typically very affordable. In fact, we have prefilled pod vapes available for as little as £5.99! Refillable pod kits, on the other hand, usually range in price between £9.99 and £24.99.

Pod Kit Pros And Cons

Pros

  • Generally pretty affordable.
  • Easy-to-use.
  • Compact, pocket-friendly design.
  • Less maintenance and upkeep compared to other types of vape kit.
  • Perfect for MTL vaping (in most cases).
  • They work great with nic salts and other 50/50 or high PG e-liquids.
  • Easily-fillable pods that often contain built-in coils.
  • They consume less e-liquid, making them more cost-efficient for those who want to vape without burning through liquids quickly.

Cons

  • Shorter battery life than larger devices.
  • If you’re using a pre-filled pods, you have quite a limited selection of flavours and nicotine strengths to choose from.
  • Refillable pods that use replaceable coils can be a bit fiddly.
  • Probably quite underwhelming for cloud-chasers (unless you’ve gone for a sub ohm pod kit).
  • They don’t pair well with high-VG e-liquids like shortfills (again, this doesn’t apply to sub ohm pod kits).
  • They’re often less durable than larger mods, potentially breaking more easily if dropped or mishandled.
